DePaul men’s basketball fell to Louisiana State University in the Emerald Coast Classic championship game, following the Blue Demons' victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the first round.  Head coach Chris Holtmann lost the Emerald Coast Classic after winning with Ohio State in 2023 — the last time the tournament was played. In the first round, the Blue Demons’ second-half play on both ends of the floor propelled the team to victory.

Following President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, Evelyn Rodriguez, a social worker at a K-8 school on Chicago’s North Side, received a letter from one of her students. That student no longer attends school. No one in the community has seen or heard from this student or their family since. The letter read: “Estoy triste porque las noticias están diciendo que me van a reportar y deportar a Ecuador.” The student was saddened by news reports about Trump’s deportation threats, and thought they would soon be deported from their Rogers Park neighborhood to Ecuador.

DePaul men’s basketball announced yesterday that six-foot-eight forward Noah Smith signed with the Blue Demons. He joins Andrew Jensen and Mason Lockett IV in the signing class.  Smith, from Plainfield High School in Plainfield, Indiana, is “a consensus top-150 recruit.”  During his junior year in high school, Smith averaged 16.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. Smith’s averages in these categories have increased in each of his high school seasons.

DePaul is expanding its research in healthcare education with help from a $3 million donation. This will support the opening of a graduate rehabilitative sciences department, merging the  occupational therapy and speech language pathology programs. The donation will also support the construction of a state-of-the-art basketball practice facility to aid in training student athletes.  Michael and Barbara Scudder donated the funds, and are active DePaul community members.
