💙📚 Super high squick-factor on this one, but the story was so good that I kept reading it even while plagued by a recurring case of stress hives. I really loved how Hannah’s background informed her reactions and interactions. @chuckwendig.bsky.social, I hate you for formication nightmares. 🐜
Cover of Invasive by Chuck Wendig. Cover features many lines of ants marching across the cover.

Those of you with teenagers will understand it is high praise when the teenagers put away the headphones and ASK to listen to a book with you. 5 out of 5 wizard vans!

💙📚 The only thing better than a book by @kevinhearne.bsky.social is that book read by Luke Daniels. This laugh-out-loud wild ride accompanied me & my family on a recent road trip. The 14-year-old was locked in immediately locked in, but even the 19-year-old was quickly captivated.

Needed a book to read for the end of my trip, and this ebook was immediately available from my library. The first “I hate you, @chuckwendig.bsky.social” moment came in the second chapter. I think I should not have picked this one while suffering from hives.
Cover of Invadive by Chuck Wendig. The cover features a lot of ants.

💙📚I am not sure where this recommendation came from, but I am very glad I came across it. I like my horror with a side of humor and The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins was a fun read. The story wrapped up neatly but I’d gladly spend more time in this world.
Cover of The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. The cover looks like a book that is burnt around the edges with a large hole ripped out of the center. Through the hole there is the silhouette of a house with a sunset (or sunrise) behind it.

💙📚The third book in the series, Children of Memory is a meditation on what makes someone a sentient being. The corvids, Gothi and Gethli, are an impeccable embodiment of the benefits of neurodiversity. Definite echoes of why my partner and I make such a good combination.
Cover of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Memory. It features a yellow-toned planet highlighted by a star flare. There is a space ship in the lower right corner.

💙📚Octopodes In Spaaaaace! The sequel to Children of Time does not disappoint. Again Tchaikovsky envelopes the reader in a completely alien way of thinking. Incredible world building. Also highly recommend this as an audiobook; I alternated listening and reading.
Cover of Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Cover features a red-toned planet highlighted by a star flare, a space station/ship that may be broken, and an organic ship resembling a manta ray.

Hope Rides Again is the second book by Andrew Shaffer featuring Joe and Barack as amateur detectives. I think the premise is starting to stretch thin, but it was entertaining enough to keep me occupied for a few hours while sitting in the hospital. 💙📚
Cover of Hope Rides Again by Andrew Shaffer. Cover picture features Barack Obama hanging on to a ladder dangling from a helicopter. His left arm is outstretched and grasping on to the arm of Joe Biden to pull him up in the air. Joe is holding his aviator sunglasses in his left hand.

💙📚 yet another fantastic horror book from @chuckwendig.bsky.social. Less squick in this one than in some of his others, just as much fantastic storytelling. Complex characters, a hefty dose of humor (including laugh-out-loud moments), and a sprinkle of political spite. Highly recommend.
The cover of The Staircase in the Woods by Chuck Wendig. It features a picture of the aforementioned staircase in the woods. There is a bird on the railing about halfway up the spiral staircase.

💙📚 I don’t usually post picture books, but I kept seeing this on a book truck at work when I was having one of those days. Cute story with a funny twist. I can verify that it is good for reading out loud. I bought it for my second cousin and read it appropriately eleventy-billion times this weekend.
Cover of I Hate Everything by Sophy Henn. Cover features a cartoon ghost (white sheet with eyes variety) yelling the title of the book. Next to him is a smaller ghost saying “Really?”

Time for more book posts 💙📚
I haven’t been reading as many books this summer. There’s also a larger number than normal in the in-progress pile because I get distracted and wander off.

They are not playing by the same social contract, which is a whole other layer to contend with.

Furthermore, these bad actors like to scream loudly about the 1st Amendment when challenged or criticized. Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are NOT freedom from consequences. But they’ve co-opted the 1st Amendment as a shield against criticism.

Information Literacy is complicated by bad actors have learned to cloak themselves in the guise of respectability: American College of Pediatricians is NOT the American Academy of Pediatrics but they intentionally sound so similar it’s very easy to confuse them even if you know about them.

This is the core of it. In the 20th century, verification happened inside institutions.
Now, it has to happen in us.
A short thread on what that shift really means, and why it has to start in schools. 🧵

Who should do the fact checks with millions and millions of fake news? The nature of social media itself is the problem. However it probably is impossible to get rid of every social network and revert debates to pre 2010-status.

I think a lot of OPs thread misunderstands the process of source evaluation, what "verification" of information was historically and is today, how public education works in the US, and how critical thinking is taught today. But the core point about digital literacy still stands.

I have not spent much time looking into the regulations for fedex. I have spent an irrational amount of time studying USPS regulations for mailing live (and deceased) animals. I fell down that particular rabbit hole because my grandfather had a mail order alligator as a child.

Also my attorney advises me that there are regulations regarding mailing scorpions and your use case may not meet the requirements.
