OTD in 2010 the Lake of Menteith froze over to a depth of 10”. Health & safety decreed ice too unsafe to permit the official curling bonspiel between North & South. So the expected Grand Match didn’t take place. Didn’t stop some folk though. Suspect never again in our time. Climate change!

He’s channeling his very best Rev IM Jolly again! Rob Robertson in this morning’s Herald Sport. And he’s got a point. Edinburgh were awful again at the weekend. Change needed on and off the field …

The fourth Ashes Test (Boxing Day match) about to get underway in Melbourne. We were there 14 years ago for the Indian match. Can’t recall much about the game but what a stadium the MCG is. It’s got amenities coming out of its amenities. Arty snap by my arty college laddie …

Everitt deserves so much more from the seasoned Test players under his charge and perhaps even more so from his Murrayfield bosses. Pro rugby is a tough old gig but there’s a certain shabbiness about the ‘will he go or should he stay’ game that seems to be going on around Everitt’s future:

Even by Trump’s standards this is beyond awful. The man has no moral compass or capacity for empathy. He is a loathsome egotistical sociopath yet millions of Americans, knowing exactly his record of mendacity and brutish, childish behaviour, voted to give him a second presidency. Beyond belief.

H-ell-o.
A Herald Sport column from Rob Robertson to be read in the inner voice of Rikki Fulton’s Rev IM Jolly - the prospects of Scotlands’ two pro clubs’ in Europe. We can always live in hope …

Half century of Caps for Darcy Graham against the Pumas tomorrow. Nae airs or graces. Just a joyous player who plays with a smile on his face and makes us smile too …

So it looks like Everitt will be coaching for his rugby future this season. Yet again the PR and human resources optics aren’t great for the Murrayfield bosses. He’s either good enough or he’s not. Maybe they couldn’t find a an available and suitable replacement … 🤷‍♂️

Rather suspect that @robirobertson.bsky.social might be off the Toonie Xmas card list 😉

Finn Russell returns from Australia after the Lions2025 campaign with his reputation enhanced. Not many of his teammates did. He was the player of the series in my view. But is he the best Scotland player of all time? Herald columnist Rob Robertson thinks so. Discuss:

Where have all the good hookers gone? No, not a Red Light District lament. It’s @robirobertson in the @herald on the recent dearth of Scottish worldclass No2s. Argues that Japan domiciled Geo Turner should be invited to join Scotland ‘s summer tour to Fiji and NZ:

So yon @robirobertson.bsky.social writing in this morning’s @heraldsport.bsky.social is concerned that the Lions’ grubby quest for filthy lucre is tarnishing the BIL brand and I fear he is right:

He was 81 in March. Doesn’t move as well as he used to but still a great night out. Some oldies some goldies and a great 9-piece band.

Better be good because that was some climb. They really shouldn't put old folk up here!😉!

Let’s hear it for Hollie. Latest in a distinguished but diminishing line of top Scottish rugby whistlers. Nice to hear, too, that Boroughmuir’s international ref Jim Fleming is still out and about (even if he is brandishing traffic cone)!

The perils of professionalism #666. Three decades on and the oftimes egotistical and selfish efforts to turn the game pro turn out to have been ongoing “amateur” hour on stilts. Read @robirobertson.bsky.social in this morning’s @heraldsport.bsky.social

Beware of oil-rich gulf states bearing gifts. It’s the 21st century Trojan horse. Soon oil-washed big bucks will be bankrolling every sport on the planet. Be warned. Don’t be a Trojan.

Since the get-go I’ve been a Nucifora sceptic. Always liked bosses to be full-timers with serious skin in the game. The Lions’ appointment simply adds to the misgivings. So read @robirobertson.bsky.social in this morning’s @heraldsport.bsky.social

No “taxi for Toonie” knee-jerk posturing by @robirobertson.bsky.social on Gregor T’s past present and future in this morning’s Herald. A considered appraisal well worth a gander.
