Putting all of that aside, Firebending Student is one of the top removal targets. I often use the card as bait to drain my opponent’s removal spells and then secure the win with other prowess creatures.

And to be honest, if Firebending Student is supposed to be banned, then Fire Nation Palace should be banned as well. This land gives a target creature Firebending 4, which is already enough to enable the same absurd combo lines.

Occasionally, I’ve had a winning streak with turn-3 and mostly turn-4 OTKs, but generally matches last significantly longer. Most of these OTKs weren’t even directly caused by Firebending Student, but rather by a combination of other prowess cards in my mono-red deck.
