On December 16, 1928, WJR-AM relocated from the Book-Cadillac Hotel to the Fisher Building, where it is still based today. The station increased its power to 50,000 watts by the mid-1930s and became a major broadcaster throughout the region.

On December 15, 1921 at 7:45 in the evening, a meeting of "congenial spirits" was held at the newly opened Detroit Public Library on Woodward Ave. to discuss organizing a Detroit Historical Society to work in conjunction with the Burton Historical Collection and the Michigan Historical Society.

On December 11, 1911, the Detroit Zoological Society was organized. This 1912 certificate signifies the life membership of Edwin S. George in the organization and notes that it was founded for "Establishment of a Zoological Park and the Preservation of Wild Animal Life."

On December 10, 1914, James J. Brady conceived the idea of Old Newsboys collecting for the Goodfellow Fund to ensure "No Kiddie without a Christmas." The organization continues its work to this day & a statue honoring Brady stands on Belle Isle.

On November 26, 1827, Detroit passed an ordinance requiring city sidewalks. Planks were used for sidewalk construction into the early 1900s, as shown in this 1902 photo.

On October 29, 1907 the new Pontchartrain Hotel celebrated its opening. A more modern, luxurious hotel constructed on the site of Detroit's storied Russell House, the Pontchartrain would operate for less than 13 years, despite becoming a social and business hub in the city.
