It is possible that this statement is a face-saving message for the Turkish public, as any peace process is rejected by the broad masses. The fact that the whole thing is conditional becomes clear at the latest through Önder’s statements at the end of the statement.

Die Bundesregierung (v.a. die künftige) sollte Druck auf die Türkei ausüben, den Weg zum Frieden zu gehen, den Öcalan jetzt geebnet hat. Dazu gehören aber demokratische Zugeständnisse.
