It sometimes can't be controlled with feature creep, I assume a lot of game devs, have the same problems with it. I could be wrong, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Great question! For me, I prefer a detailed outline of the GDD (game design doc) but also has a bit of freedom so I can see where it goes. This actually a recent thing I started doing since I figured if too strict then I would get bored easily. However, sometimes feature creep just happens.

My cat is pretty much the same, but is just 14-16 weeks, adopted them off the street, very cuddlely mine is, always laying on me and following me, very adorable
