Give his series Rising Stars a try. It's spiritually very similar to Mark Gruenwald's run, and comes in one big compendium.

Mark Gruenwald's magnum opus. I loved the J. Michael Straczynski reboot, too, but I wish it was finished. Seems like a series that's not done the justice it deserves.

I feel like it's only obscure because Marvel lost the license, but this and ROM, both from Bill Mantlo, are incredible.
