I've only read Parable of the Sower, but I did have an eery prophetic feeling reading it for the first time in 2020. Less about the fires and more the breakdown in social trust and the rise of corporate feudalism. Neal Stephenson also saw this and I do feel like we're getting closer every year

One of my favorite movies, The Man from Earth, doesn't have any traditional conflict via violence, but instead features a conflict around truth and whether the characters believe a story the protagonist tells. There are so many more compelling ways to integrate conflict than shoot 'em ups.

The early wave of tech optimists were deeply uncomfortable with wielding power and got co-opted by more cynical actors who had no compunction about maximizing power and influence. I remember when tech saw political lobbying as uncouth.

These are great tips to grow the community, but it's still susceptible to the Eternal September problem which has plagued online communities from the days of usenet.

The custom algorithmic feed feature of ATProto is probably key to solving. I really want to dig in here. will share more...

The way the phrase “ching chong” is used to mock Chinese languages is close to how the Greeks and Romans used “bar bar” was used to mock cultural outsiders from Africa to North Europe.
