Shabbat shalom! Honestly a bit of a crap week. In the positive side, I was successful in getting a good challah bake this week with my kitchen set up here (made four different smaller challahs to hedge bets) and a few new things I tried in class went pretty well thankfully

Surreal moment for America. Needless to say, if the normal police ever pulled something like this — pulling every single person out of an apartment building and handcuffing them to run warrant checks — they would be sued into oblivion.

Yet ICE is going to get away with it entirely.

"It was scary, because I had never had a gun in my face," Fisher said. "They asked my name and my date of birth and asked me, did I have any warrants? And I told them, 'No, 'Ididn't."
Fisher said she was handcuffed before being released around 3 a.m., and she was told that if anyone had any kind of warrant out for them, even if it was unrelated to immigration, they would not be released.

Environmental Politics is an international, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal spanning the fields of political science, political sociology, and political theory. The journal provides a forum for the publication of original research into, and discussion and analysis of, the diverse theoretical and empirical aspects of environmental politics. The journal’s 2024 Impact Factor is 5.9, ranking 4/322 in Political Science and 29/191 in Environmental Studies.

The journal is recruiting a Social Media Editor to manage its external communications. Responsibilities for this position include:

Managing social media accounts (currently Bluesky, X, Substack) and the journal website
Posting and circulating all journal and website publications
Arranging and editing guest posts and interviews with authors
We welcome expressions of interest from scholars of environmental politics from any higher education institution. We strongly encourage applications from early career individuals, including advanced PhD students and post-doctoral fellows, and we would specifically welcome applications from historically underrepresented groups and those whose intersectional identities and perspectives position them to support the editorial team’s commitment to an inclusive conception of environmental politics scholarship.

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"

Shabbat shalom! I think this is the first Rosh Hashanah I’ve spent alone in a very long time. I’ve been incredibly exhausted this week but otherwise recovered from being sick. Daniel had a really exciting week with some cool professional things, which was a nice omen for the new year.

For their first project, my Kids and Society students have to create an infographic clarifying a common misconception about "kids these days." I'd prefer that they not use AI to create their projects, so I made my own infographic explaining why : )
