Delighted to share that I have been accepted into the Doctoral School at Akademia Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu (ASP) where I will pursue my practice-based PhD over 3 years within the Printmaking and Book Art areas. All things considered, I am thrilled to stay in Poland. Excited for this next chapter.

Here’s a few images from my exhibition reception „Czas pod Ciśnieniem / Time under Pressure” at Galeria Miejska Pracownia. Huge thanks to everyone who made it possible! #fulbrightpoland #mezzotint #printmaker #time #pressure

Two small interior mezzos to round out this first water tower series. Taken from the Gliwice Sobieskiego water tower, a gorgeous gothic revival structure from 1918. #mezzotint #spiralstairs #interior

You, Me, and the Moon (part II) Across a Great Distance and Increasingly Dire Circumstances. Follow up piece to a past print from 2020, You, Me, and the Moon. Revisiting a theme with new imagery. So great to finally see all three plates of this triptych printed on one sheet! #mezzotint #printmaking

Works by Shannon Ferguson and Ivy Manska (visiting Wrocław on exchange from UTK! 😁) gorgeous lithos, etchings and relief prints. It’s great they are here this month!

Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony - Muzeum Fortyfikacji i Nietoperzy, German WWII underground bunker system / military defense line, and now, Europe’s largest protected bat sanctuary! Very interesting place to explore.. so much mining technology employed during wartime construction of bunkers like these.

Weekend in Bremen to visit my friend Jen. Very cool city. Haven’t been to Germany since last summer, despite being so close now. Got some really excellent park sits in, and a little sketch session!

Recreating water tower structures from archive images of the industrial plants they used to serve in Śląskie (Silesia) a postindustrial region I have been focusing on during my time in Poland. Based on Huta Zabrze at the former Zabrze steelworks, and Chorzów at the Zakłady Azotowe nitrogen plant.

Also met the cat of Užupis, some phenomenal figurative sculptures and spent time with an excellent guy. Too many photos to choose four, but these are a few of my favorites. I am the first Stackonis (Stockunas) in 4 generations to return to Lithuania! It meant so much to visit 🇱🇹

Very lucky to meet artists I’ve long admired from this side of the world, Roman Sustov and Nastassia Pazniak

My printmaking heart is so full! 🖤🖤🖤

Rasų (Rasos) Cemetery is the oldest in Vilnius, and is very beautiful (especially with these blue flowers coming up everywhere). Many famous Polish, Lithuanian and Belarusian writers and cultural figures are buried here. I’ve never experienced a cemetery like this before.

A load of Lithuania content incoming…. Incredible first visit to Vilnius, including a tour of the printmaking department of the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts! Gorgeous presses from the Netherlands and some older Soviet equipment. It was great to meet professor Rimvydas Kepežinskas and see the studios

Szymanowicz Krzysztof
LINORYTY exhibition opening at ASP.. My relief printmaking brain is shattered looking at these. Krzysztof is a visiting artist from Lublin, Poland. Very surreal works.

First proof of this new mezzotint plate! There’s a few things I may brighten up, but I’m pleased with how it printed overall. This is the center panel, so the side plates are in the works 😉

It’s spring in Poland! Visited Wieża Ciśnień Na Grobli today and Hydropolis museum at the site of the former waterworks. I would love to get permission to see the interior of this tower. It has the largest castiron spiral staircase in Europe and very ornate fly wheels, currently closed to the public

Results are in! Hahnemühle # 10105729 300 gram soft and smooth copperplate paper performed best out of the 5 that I tested with mezzotint. This paper gave the clarity and subtle tonal transitions I was looking for in the darks, like I am able to achieve with Zerkall copperplate. Soaked 20+ mins.

Small mezzotint test plate to print several kinds of Hahnemühle copperplate printing paper. I’ve been burning through my reserves of Zerkall (the best mezzotint paper imo) but since the mill flooded in 2021 and there is no more.. it’s time to find a new go to printing paper. I’ll share my results!

Double feature tonight - Lisa Maria Baier exhibition opening! Lisa uses Al to generate images inspired by postwar testimonies and inherited stories, considering the historical relationship between Poland and Germany. She then transfers them to paper with anastatic printing. #printmaking #animation

Mikael Kihlman exhibition at Oficyna Graficzna Tyszkiewicz - almost entirely drypoints inspired by Wrocław from 1990 on. So incredible to see these in person! #printmaking #drypoint #intaglio #wrocław

Fulbright Poland mid-year meeting in Gdańsk. Finally made it to the Muzeum II Wojny Światowej here (WWII museum). It was expansive and incredibly thorough, and would take at least 8 hours to engage with all exhibitions. Great to reunite with my cohort who are based in cities across Poland.
