Postdoc in the SCAN Lab and Ghassabian Lab at NYU || SMC (BS), QMUL (MSc), & USC (PhD) alum || brain development, environmental exposures, stress and inflammation 🧠
With this publication, my entire PhD dissertation is out there in the world 🙂 I could not be more grateful for the @hertinglab.bsky.social and i'm so proud of what we've accomplished over the last 5 years.

TL;DR - Objectively measured sleep quantity and quality changed the relationship between prenatal and childhood gaseous pollutant exposure and white matter microstructure, but we think sleep efficiency (a proxy for quality) may be more important than duration.

In more exciting news, we found that higher sleep *efficiency* significantly diminished the positive relationship between prenatal O3 and global intra-axonal diffusion. Post-hoc ROI analyses revealed that right CST was driving the association 😴

We found a significant interaction between sleep duration and childhood NO2 exposure on global intra-axonal diffusion, but the relationship between pollution and brain wasn't significant. How meaningful this interaction is remains unclear 🤷‍♀️ BUT...

We used objectively measured sleep from the Fitbit Charge 2 and characterized white matter microstructural integrity using restriction spectrum imaging, a multi-compartment model that can distinguish between intra- and extracellular diffusion. Data comes from the landmark ABCD Study 🧠
