I bet there’s some research out there, but I don’t know if it would be in music, audiology, physics…hm. Definitely some looking (and listening) to do!

I wonder if pushing forward particular harmonics in a chord changes the direction that the chord “wants” to move? (Like you can set up a V7 that feels stable and doesn’t collapse to I?) No evidence - wasn’t really my area of expertise with sound design - but it’s the first thought that came to mind.
