Love must always come first, giving us direction. Then education & exposure give us the only cures to fear & anger.

So to be a truly tolerant society we must be intolerant of intolerance.
It is the only way to maintain that standard of social equality through economic, environmental, political or social hardships.

They would have to be tolerant of intolerance, which leads to the intolerant group being allowed to grow and contract with that society's successes and hardships, ultimately allowing it to eventually take over the majority and cast out or harm the tolerant ones.

That's if you are debating for the purpose of finding truth or a "best" concept, however, there are other purposes for debate.
You can debate to make a choice out of multiple equal options.
Or debating subjective or qualitative topics.
Ultimately, all participants have to share the same purpose.
