This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

Ok yeah he did actually confirm that, I think this comes up periodically because they’ve used this service for a while and have been consistently bad about explaining what it is. (See ‘hire comms people, above)

Every appeal gets reviewed by moderators, but literally no social media site at scale can scan user content in a timely fashion for violations using only humans. They do not retain or train on any Bsky user data or images.

If I understand correctly what aaron is trying to say is that they use Hive for image identification/flagging but *don’t* feed anything in as training data…he just doesn’t know how to actually explain that clearly because bluesky hasn’t hired any comms people and desperately needs to.

It is by far not the worst thing these people have done, but it does suck that we can’t just laugh at the absurd things they say because they’re powerful people not a weirdo rambling on a street corner.

Oh yeah any benefit is going to be ‘cops not bothering to help DHS’ not ‘cops actively siding against DHS’ but we take what we can get.

Cops suck but they are fundamentally really lazy (see every person falsely convicted because railroading the first guy they saw was easier than doing any investigation whatsoever) and DHS is making a bunch of actual hard work for them.
