I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

Your leaders and colleagues just told everyone they will never hold Republicans accountable.

Dump Schumer now.

If Congressional Dems were actually fighting, there wouldn’t be recriminations.

As long as you support cowards and feckless leaders the pressure will only increase.

You just surrendered when you were winning, you cowardly, feckless fool.

Resign.

The best election week for Dems in years and you couldn’t take the W.

Cowardice and political incompetence.

I’ll donate to primary opponents for every one of you who surrendered.

…with a big helping of “conservative straight white men, as always, are the True Victims here.”

Oh, joy. Another round of “criticizing the Nazis in our ranks only makes us go more Nazi. Checkmate, libs.”

But we can totally make it work if we redirect 1/3 of US GDP to these companies. We swear.

Yeah, it's a weird category error to criticize a brilliant Broadway musical for not being a work of scholarly history.

Then again, we're still dealing with influential people who thought The West Wing was a documentary, or at least an aspirational description of how government should work.

It’ll be even more clownish when we’re bombing 2-3 countries for ridiculous, made-up reasons by then.

How about the other two Senate classes? Any chance for some interesting specials next year like 2020 GA?
November 6, 2025 at 3:46 AM
What are the odds of an extra Senate retirement or two after last night? And what do they become if the shutdown continues much longer?
November 6, 2025 at 3:38 AM
Yep, and pulling off the Trump thing successfully requires decades of self-promotion as a reality TV character so low information voters supplement the wacked-out base.

Just between Hegseth, Miller, Rubio, and Vance the potential for inventing bizarre new failure modes in foreign adventurism is off the charts.
November 6, 2025 at 2:25 AM
True, but this isn't just the DC suburbs. Dems are rolling in Falwell country tonight. Even the super-red counties are seeing a massive blue shift.
November 5, 2025 at 2:21 AM
The challenge with this remains how many votes does it net? How many of those single-issue voters would cross over for anything less than their maximalist view on the issue, and how many votes do you lose trying to get them?

Peter Gabriel’s Secret World Live is in the conversation, but I can’t say anyone who goes with Alchemy is wrong.

This thread has some good context on why Israel is a red line for parts of the hard right:

This might actually be THE point where Christian Nationalism starts either splintering...or the NAR literally just joins with Christian Identity and REALLY returns to its roots

(I'd have thought the SBC/NAR widening split would have been the fissure, but a neo-Nazi/NAR split has been growing)

1. A watershed moment.

The President of the Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action, Kevin Roberts , has announced that the organization is standing by Tucker Carlson in the aftermath of Tucker’s interview with neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes.

This isn’t Kevin bending his knee to Trump…this is something new

What percentage of the country even knows it’s happening? Our information environment is so screwed up right now I suspect that number is depressingly small.
November 3, 2025 at 12:18 AM
That explains some of it, but the growing education gap and culture wars plays a part, too.

My county has been low/no growth, but has gone from one of the swingiest in the country to solid Blue as the GOP started sounding like talk radio blowhards.
