Yeah, it's a weird category error to criticize a brilliant Broadway musical for not being a work of scholarly history.
Then again, we're still dealing with influential people who thought The West Wing was a documentary, or at least an aspirational description of how government should work.

Yep, and pulling off the Trump thing successfully requires decades of self-promotion as a reality TV character so low information voters supplement the wacked-out base.

True, but this isn't just the DC suburbs. Dems are rolling in Falwell country tonight. Even the super-red counties are seeing a massive blue shift.

The challenge with this remains how many votes does it net? How many of those single-issue voters would cross over for anything less than their maximalist view on the issue, and how many votes do you lose trying to get them?

What percentage of the country even knows it’s happening? Our information environment is so screwed up right now I suspect that number is depressingly small.

That explains some of it, but the growing education gap and culture wars plays a part, too.
My county has been low/no growth, but has gone from one of the swingiest in the country to solid Blue as the GOP started sounding like talk radio blowhards.
