Tried potato farls this evening - tasty but not sure I got the balance of flour:potato quite right. #ChemistsWhoCook

Fresh sardines and cauliflower baking in the oven. This #ChemistWhoCooks operates a “hybrid” kitchen, so these will be served with toasted potato waffles from a packet… 😂😅😭

Accidentally made too much sweet-potato mash for my bread recipe, and was obliged to make muffins with the rest… 😇 #ChemistsWhoCook

Popping up from “lurk mode” to share some plantain, which was a gift from a Ghanaian friend who showed me how she prepared it and then pointedly gave me a raw one and said “it’s not hard”. #ChemistsWhoCook

On the one hand, the gardening (as so many other things) got away from me over the past few weeks. On the other hand, there was enough dandelion for a tiny bowl of hindbeh! #ChemistsWhoCook

Lebanese turmeric cake - tasty yes, but I mostly make it because I love its name in Arabic: sfouf (صفوف)! #ChemistsWhoCook

This is my current bedside rock. Likely from a pebble beach in southern England.

This (gestures broadly) is all a bit much, hence my recent quietness. IRL, am working away, reading “Radium Girls” and enjoying the occasional visit from Paws the Northeastern mascot, who was quite insistent on making a lemon battery during science week 😂.

Science week Friday fun! It turns out you can make a battery out of kimchee 😍 #ITeachChem but a series of kiwi wins on voltage!

Reasons to be hopeful: today, in office hours, I enjoyed a rainbow cupcake to celebrate LGBT+ History Month while one of my UG students explained Overton windows to me with respect to US politics. Then we talked about reactive carbon intermediates for an hour and it was GREAT! #ITeachChem

Prepping corn bread muffins from my new book (rapidly re-learning the Fahrenheit scale) and black bean stew. Lots of slightly mushy spicy bean/lentil dishes get batch-cooked here for the increasingly frail parents-in-law. Look after your teeth, folks. #ChemistsWhoCook

Found these delights on my dad’s bookshelf this morning, and accidentally learnt a little more about the history of CAS in the process. #ChemSky

This academic chemist is celebrating #IDWGS by: submitting a peer review and corrections to my own paper; thinking about teaching labs and UDL; and making a batch of Louisiana Sweet Potato Bread as a #ChemistWhoCooks 🧪

It’s #Caturday and Blueberry snuggles definitely helped me through this week! Although his insistence yesterday was occasionally somewhat anti-productive. #TinyJoys

My birthday present arrived! *Glee* #ChemistsWhoCook and cheekily tagging @tracyvwilson.bsky.social to thank her and Holly for the SYMIHC episode…

Too tired to prove dough for cinnamon rolls on a weeknight so made US-style coffee cake with cinnamon streusel instead. Managed to take a photo just before I ate the whole slice! 😇☺️ #ChemistsWhoCook

Reading Jem Bloomfield’s “Gold
on the Horizon” and this commentary on the character of Governor Gumpas from
Lewis’s Voyage of the Dawntreader struck me rather sharply for some reason.
