More details about job news: this was such a hard decision bc it was about staying where I am or going into the unknown. For 25+ yrs I’ve worked to be one of the best history editors in the @aupresses.bsky.social world. I finally got there and @uncpress.bsky.social had a ton to do with that. 1/5

I knew the insides of @amyefarrell.bsky.social’s book were fantastic, but WOW the outside is a work of art. Since Lionel won’t let me near it I guess I’ll have to order another copy from @uncpress.bsky.social - and you should too!

I actually have just touched down at LaGuardia after having a rapturous weekend in Atlanta.

Just 2 kids from the IU Bloomington graduate program in history playing grown-up at the @aaslh.org conference. John Dichtl at the AASLH helm and me hawking @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social books, which are available at a deep(er) discount until 4 pm today at the booth!

Hello, Cincinnati and #AASLH / @aaslh.org from @bloomsburyaced.bsky.social! We’re open for business tomorrow at 9 and look forward to meeting our authors and discovering new ones.

In a “when worlds collide” moment, got to finally meet @uncpress.bsky.social author and @aaslh.org’s @johngmarks.com!

Hello, Cincinnati! For all those who have missed the #debbie’sstunninghotelviews series, I’m very pleased to reveal that while I have a new job that could not be more different from the last several, the conference hotel views are the same. #aaslh2025 @aaslh.org @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social

Hi to all coming to Cincinnati this week for the @aaslh.org meeting! I'll be representing @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social w/ 2 wonderful colleagues, so please come by the booth to introduce yourself (esp. Charles Harmon's authors, now mine), pitch a book idea, & browse our stellar collection of books.

!!!!!! It's so beautiful! Waiting (im)patiently for my copy, @uncpress.bsky.social! But get it to potential big mouths who will talk it up first!

Let’s see how well my commuting muscle memory performs on day 1 of new job. First job in over 2 decades where I can’t hit the ground running and I’m terrified!

Last day at UNCP is 8/15. 1st day at Bloomsbury is 8/25. I’ve tried desperately to personally tell the 100s in my orbit, but time hasn’t been on my side, which is ripping me up. UNCP will take great care of my past, present, future, & prospective authors. & I’m an email away (DM me for it). ❤️🙏 5/5

At @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social I’ll be an editorial director for one of their publishing groups. My team acquires text, professional, & trade books in education, criminology, museum studies/
practice of history (my list), parenting, health/wellness, self help, true crime, sports, & finance. 4/5

Ideally I’d be an ED at a university press while still acquiring in history, but that hasn’t happened yet. I’m 58, & time to decide if it’s best to stay in my beloved world or try something new. I’m unsure if I’m doing the right thing, but something new won out, and it happened really fast. 3/5

I love acquiring & editing history books, my authors, series eds, friends from history conferences, so much more that comes with the job. It’s not an exaggeration to say that this is my world, & I know I belong in it. The only thing that’s been missing is a chance to be an editorial director. 2/5

This is why my decision was so, so hard: no. No more history except for museum studies and I think a little bit of public history. A different editorial group handles history. I am sick over the fact that it’s a hard stop, but the desire for greater responsibility is tugging at me.
dgershenowitz.bsky.social
I hate sharing the news this way. It’s impossible to individually reach so many who have reached out to *me* over the years, so watch this space for a more personal post, albeit w/in the confines of social media. @uncpress.bsky.social will take excellent care of past, current, & future projects. 🙏

Welp, as they say: I knew this news was going out over the @aupresses.bsky.social wires today but I thought I had more time to tell the hundreds (literally, 100s) of beloved authors and all who love history that I accepted a job as an editorial director at @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social very recently.

I am so happy to see you in full-blown social media character again. Please keep it going, not least bc since we can’t seem to ever get our acts together to hang at a conference this is the next best thing for me.
