What happened to the maid

I’m still learning about some of them, but yes! It seems like she’s always just been herself, and her voice got stronger as she got older. I’m hoping to capture that. She really was amazing…thank you ♥️

Definitely. It was the only way she could be, until the very end. She always read to us, why I love reading so much. She was on a breathing tube in the last days of her life, but she was awake. My brother suggested we could read to her, & she gave us the middle finger. Fearless and sassy to the end

You know you have a teenage boy when a post like this is a trigger.

I also think there’s something about it that’s sticking out to me just because of the ephemera of it all. Sally doesn’t have any of my mom’s letters because she didn’t save any of that stuff. But she kept that shirt.

Sally ended up talking to the guy. And the next day, my mom got a shirt printed with “orgasmic toes” and gave it to Sally. She still has the shirt. I think I am going to use the story to foreshadow her party years which cause her to flunk out.

They went to a party where he would be, but Sally was painfully shy. My mom dragged Sally up to the guy, introduced her, and said “be careful about Sally, she has orgasmic toes” which who knows why she said that ??? And then burst out laughing (she had a manic cackle) and everyone else laughed…

One thing that Sally kept coming back to over and over was that my mom was fearless, would say whatever she wanted to say to anyone. It was something I always admired about my mom.

So, the orgasmic toes thing…Sally and my mom went to college together, and my mom knew Sally had a crush on a guy…

And honestly, thank you so much for saying this. I think the most kind thing a person *can* say when someone says they’ve lost someone is “tell me about them!” This probably isn’t the craziest story, but I am looking forward to titling something “orgasmic toes”

This isn’t the most plot driven, but I do love a good first months of college, finding yourself narrative, and I do love the particular weirdo my mom was…

Added to say, there is a decent amount of intrigue…

Ranging from when she was a little girl in the 50s, all the way to the mid 80s, when she was at a concert and realized she was pregnant with me (I’m the oldest). 3/3

I recently contacted one of the friends, and she told me all of these crazy stories about who my mom was and how she acted before us. And it just made me want to talk to more of her friends. So the idea is this…short stories that are fictionalizations of stories her friends told me 2/?

So, my mom died in 2019 at 65. When she was a young woman, she was a prolific letter writer, and so I have a bunch of letters from her friends. My mom’s life was really devoted to my siblings and I, and I have been really curious about who she was as a woman, before us. 1/?
