They are developing valuable technical skills in high-resolution image capture, colour management, & digital file handling. In addition, they have gained hands-on experience in the safe handling of archival material, & learning techniques for ensuring preservation during the digitisation process.

The interns have been learning the digitisation process in our photography studio. This has involved operating our Phase One 150mp Cultural Heritage camera and Guardian Copystand. They have also been getting to grips with our Capture One photography software

Yesterday marked 47 years since St Luke's (teacher training) College merged with the University of Exeter.

This University Archive throwback shows St Luke's (then the Diocesan Training School) in 1855.

Happy World Dream Day! 💭

What did you last dream about?

These dream interpretations can be found in the book 'Nummits and Crummits: Devonshire Customs, Characteristics, and Folk-lore' by Sarah Hewett (1900).

Autumn officially begins today with the Autumn Equinox! 🍂

Following a very warm summer, spectacular autumn colours are expected this year - we can't wait!

This poem was written and illustrated by the writer, poet and librettist, Ronald Duncan.

📷 EUL MS 397/2/2/2

#AutumnEquinox #Autumn #Archives
Painting of a tree with a grey trunk and leaves of green, red, purple and orange. Next to the tree is a poem: 'Pheasants feathers of amethyst, Magenta, crimson, burnt sienna & brown, Leaf the maple's branches with a mauve mantle, As it stands sentinel to the undying Fall.' Ronald Duncan's signature and the date '9 Sept - 77' are noted in the bottom right hand corner.

Our DH Lab team have been using photogrammetry and RTI to capture the tree’s growth rings and surface textures in detail. By combining these techniques with expertise from our partners, we are helping develop a picture of the tree’s age, growth patterns & environmental changes it experienced

We love this tiny illustration of a Bridgettine nun engrossed in a book! She can be found in the border of Sister Mary Dominic's vow in the Syon Abbey archive.

Illustration of a nun standing on the left-hand corner of a blue border. She is wearing a grey habit, black veil and a white linen crown forming a cross over her head, with five red spots that represent the five wounds of Christ. She is holding a book bound in brown leather in front of her, which she appears completely engrossed in. To her right are words in Latin.
