The flawed Silicon Valley consensus on AI - excellent column by @johnthornhill.bsky.social. "Instead of hyperventilating about AI ushering in a new era of abundance, wouldn’t it be better to drop the rhetoric and build AI systems for more defined, realisable goals?" www.ft.com/content/3474...

ONS has taken a lot of stick recently over problems with core economic statistics, but its response today on the public finance stats - setting out what happened and a path forward - is a frank and useful explainer from the new team that's to be welcomed. blog.ons.gov.uk/2025/10/08/a...

This morning‘s walk with #SophieFromRomania had everything – a film crew setting up, kids going to school, the bin lorry, the excitement of another dog to bark at furiously. And throughout there was my bad back which meant I had to stop every few yards. All in all I think she coped pretty well.

#sophiefromromania returned from her walk invigorated by hunting through the leaves and especially by her furious bark off with the two golden retrievers behind their front gate. The owner and I apologised to each other profusely but it wasn’t our fault!

Does anyone have slides that lend themselves for undergraduate teaching, which go step by step through a behavioral lab experiment, and would be willing to share them with me?
