Acting scared of Russia now, though, encourages them to resort to threats. Why are we scared they'll escalate? Why aren't they scared we'll escalate?

Ukraine should be able to defend itself fully.
Russia writes red lines, and when they're crossed, does nothing. HIMARS, Sweden + Finland joining NATO are examples.
