The Night Land by William Hope Hodgson. It was certainly the most difficult book I’ve ever read - written in 1912, the language is archaic and dense, but very much worth the effort - it will put images and feelings of dread and foreboding in your mind that won’t ever go away. Lots of fan fic too.
