Sixteen images of a cone rotating about an axis through the vertex and perpendicular to its own axis, cut by a horizontal plane above the vertex, and seen obliquely. Each cone is warmly-colored like molten metal, grading from bright gold to brick red along the cone axis. The images are arranged around a circle like numbers on a clock face, with the image's position equal to the cone's angle of rotation. The cones float against a twilit sky grading from medium blue at the bottom to dark blue, and together they comprise a glowing bracelet-like ring.

Two puzzles I'm building:
🔴 12 pieces slide into a cube with coordinated motions in 2D abstract space.
🔵 30 pieces form a dodecahedron with 4D motions.

Very well said!

That is why (regrettably large) parts of mathematical research today amount in practice to weapons work

Thanks to my friend James Horton, I have just discovered the work of Danish painter of Peder Mørk Mønsted (1859-1941) and HOW CAN A PERSON NEARLY A HUNDRED YEARS AGO PAINT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE IT'S A PHOTO ON AN IPHONE WHAT IS THIS ABSOLUTE SORCERY.
Photo....no, wait, a PAINTING, by Peder Mørk Mønsted, of the snow-laden banks of a river that looks absolutely photo-real. Another painting by Peder Mørk Mønsted that looks utterly photo-realistic of a tree-lined river with utterly convincing shades of green-tinted darkness and perfect reflections in the river below.

Beautiful!

Ivan Shishkin's work lands similarly for me; off to peruse Mønsted.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Sh...

Partial to the great dodecahedron: It has genus 4 (possibly despite appearances), and radial projection from the center defines a 3-sheeted map to the sphere branched at the 12 vertices, with two sheets coming together at each vertex.

The first day of the 6th year of Mathober!

Today's prompt is Link.

I will post on blue-skee and this blog post as the month goes on:

I might code something later, but not sure yet.

Six rings held togher by a single ring going over and under, where each ring is a circular tree branch with lichen, moss, ferns, and mushrooms growing off. Everything is radially symmetrical so that the six rings have repeated growths and lighting. On each ring there is a brown creeper facing clockwise with a dark speckled top and white brest with a curved beak. it faces a tiny mushroom. the background goes from a light yellow to dark slate blue from the off-center center of the radial sketch with a smeared cloudy feel to it. in the lower corner is a signature S with a period.

I ordered a couple of small metal prints of some of my sculptures from Craftcloud (IN3DTEC was the printer). Spendy (and don’t forget the extra $30 in tariffs!), but they came out looking pretty darn spectacular!
