Karlach is only half immortal, so she's still on a time limit. He can still lose her without ever seeing the sun together.Both starved for time in a way.

Karlach can't stop moving or she'll burnout and Astarion can't stop lingering or he'll unravel.

Her warmth feeds him; his cool shadow soothes her burning engine. They complete what the other has been denied.

They can see each other at night, but now whenever they try to see each other they both burn if they get too close. Like can't even get 10ft of each other without activating the curse. So it becomes a whole star crossed lovers situation.

When him and Karlach meet it's like the first 'true offering' he's had in centuries.

Both betrayed to be banished to their current situations, so when they try to help each other reach the surface to see the sun together, they get caught and punished.

Heart replaced with the engine and marked as Zariel's chosen champion.

Astarion is shackled to an elder tyrant deity. Who starved him of worship, turned his followers against him, and drains his light to fuel their dominion. So Astarion has this messy underlining hunger for devotion and intimacy.

Karlach is a renowned "Champion of the people" who's sacrificed by her patron Gortash to the underworld.

And that's exactly the deal he makes too. Zariel request the "The heart of a champion or heart of the people" and he thinks Karlach is a perfect candidate.

I think Karlach and Astarion would make a cute but tragic mythology au. They're perfect for a whole star-crossed lovers situation. Like Demi-godess warrior Karlach and Astarion is a god of shadows and stars exiled from his pantheon.🧵
