Yeah I have hydro brakes on other bikes. Huge difference. Not sure many exist with singlespeed levers but we’ll see!

It actually makes me wonder about what kind of bike I would buy next. One with a gearbox maybe? Who knows!
October 25, 2025 at 10:34 AM
But apart from that there’s very little I’d change really. I’m even quite happy about that ugly Ass Savers downtube fender!

About my own bike, I would consider putting better brakes in. The stock Tektro disc brakes are OK but I’m sure there are better ones. And with a loaded bike you want more braking power.

So, would I do it again? Well I think yes! On a mostly-flat road it’s great, and means there’s less maintenance you need to worry about (and tools to carry). Still expect the unexpected, of course (I broke a pedal on the way 🤣)!

But other than that, I honestly think it doesn’t change much compared to a geared bike when it comes to actual riding: you just have to accept you won’t really choose the cadence and settle in.
October 25, 2025 at 10:34 AM
And I honestly don’t think I would have been able to climb that nasty hill in the middle of the route with up to 12% gradients!
October 25, 2025 at 10:34 AM
I fitted a 42x18 (the Bombtrack Arise comes stock with a 42x16, like many singlespeeds), and I think it was the right choice: yes, it made it challenging to go faster than 27-28 km/h on the flat, but when bikepacking with a loaded bike you tend not to go very fast anyway.
October 25, 2025 at 10:34 AM
The obvious con: there’s only one gear. Which means you need to pick the right gear ratio so that you don’t end up grinding too much and spinning too much.
October 25, 2025 at 10:34 AM
Not sure that’s something you’d say in English though 🤣
October 24, 2025 at 5:33 PM
You have good taste 😅
October 24, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Mine is just a bit further away 🍻

That's a tradition I can root for! Cheers!

Would be a pleasure!
