Disagree. The league clubs didn’t control the competition. the vfl started as a breakaway group so the clubs controlled the comp. the trauma of relocating (not destroying) a fairly unsuccessful club was quite powerful.
In comparison souths was just shut down for shits and giggles

What’s this WE business paleface?
December 26, 2025 at 9:04 AM
Not sure that was possible with the constitution of the vfl. The clubs controlled the vfl, not vice versa.

It’s the reason there has been comparatively little consolidation compared to league.

Power has drifted to the afl, but the experiences of failed consolidation attempts left their mark.

of course, there are two ways to ration things: make people pay or make people wait. Australia has variations of both.

but there are big deficiencies like no public dental and only specific support for mental health (until you need a psych ward)

I also think this about Australia. We have a mostly good health care system, but it is not universal healthcare.

We have excellent public hospitals that are free for anyone.
But GP services often require co payments, and there are so many things not covered.

My people come from the unnamed county just south of

This is the least true part of the whole thing. A North American spent a whole day on an Australian beach in January? That third degrees burns right there.

She spent the day at a restaurant overlooking the beach.

There’s a saying in the sydney eastern suburbs “ I don’t go west of David jones” - a department store on the eastern most street of the central business district.

Not only didn’t she leave double bay. She only spoke to people who don’t leave double bay.

As a retired IT professional with a degree In history i think it is no coincidence that the IT industry has their own term for not doing the reading.

RTFM. When someone misses sone thing basic, you ask them to read the f-ing manual

Australia have had a weakened bowling attack and a makeshift ( and sometimes chaotic) batting lineup. England’s batters haven’t had a bad series in a vacuum, Mitchell Starc has had a part in it.

Exactly this. The thing this team clearly have is a mental toughness. Compare to Australian teams in the 1980s that often lost from winnable positions, this team does not ( or rarely ) let an advantage slip.

sure its a procurement fiasco, but dont forget the private company contracted to deliver the product spent a decade developing this PoS.
That is a total engineering disaster.
