@chris__martin with academia run as corporations on the IT side, it's even worse.

E.g. using our email (office365 😠 ) in the normal way (threaded discussion with replies in text) isn't possible.

@melissawm "vlees noch vis" (neither meat nor fish) in the Dutch version
February 4, 2026 at 3:12 AM
@melissawm mamahuhu means "so-so" in Mandarin, but also "horse horse tiger tiger" (that's a bit of useless info I learnt in my 8 years in Singapore:-))

@christianp tell them it's a GDPR violation to have shared logins like this one. 🙂

one can have one user with multiple keys only for non-shell accounts (GitHub etc do this)

@chris__martin once it proved to be useful for me. A package I ordered got delivered to a wrong place, and I was able to argue about this thanks to the photo.

@vicgrinberg badness 10000!
January 31, 2026 at 3:15 AM
@vicgrinberg looking back, I cannot help noticing that the next stage is to keep the TeX versions of a text in a VCS (e.g. git) and only look at the changes (not looking through the whole text all over again) when co-authors send you an update.

Then (in my case) one gets annoyed when co-authors […]

@dpiponi mind you, as far as wireless speakers/music go, there is Brennan, product designed by 1 person.
And it works. There is Sonos, also not from a company sitting on a warehouse of cash, and it works (although not as good as Brennan, thanks to all that DRM shit they have to deal with, and […]

@AdamCoffman We have 2 driveways, and no car 😃 Our driveways are extremely popular as turning points on a relatively narrow street, and a snow ploug just passed. I probably have to go and check the snow, otherwise tomorrow morning it's gonna be a traffic jam here...
January 26, 2026 at 4:32 AM
@AdamCoffman OTOH I enjoyed shoveling away our 6 or so inches here. Snowblowers must be only allowed to certified incapacitated elders. 🙂

@argumatronic.bsky.social the whole idea of a carry permit stems from a wrong premise. Which by the way also leads to law enforcement being extremely trigger-happy.

@argumatronic.bsky.social How does one revolt against the IRS?
January 24, 2026 at 8:26 PM
@tomkalei the real privileged people nowadays don't have mobile phones. 🙂
January 24, 2026 at 7:49 PM
@tomkalei That's peanuts. You might know how much this costs with a lawyer or a notary... 🙂

@chris__martin besides, dismantling USAID last year has killed an estimated 600000 people, 400000 of them children. But, I guess, cause they are mostly black and far away, a full of compassion USian just shrugs.
