Moreover...even if they didn't have the word 'house', they'd surely just...be using a different word to refer to a house? I don't see why we should be thanking the Vikings for such contribution given language would've evolved in its own way with or without the word 'house'.

The massacre in-question was the St Brice's Day massacre; This was in-response to tensions between Saxons and Danes after the Danes had invaded England. It only took place (as far as we know) in Oxford. It was more to do with Aethelread fearing that they would take over.
