No one said anything about controlling external parties. They could've at least mass emailed people immediately before/after about this so no one's in the blind for A FEW DAYS.

I hope they get out of this scenario. But leaving your community out of the dark for a bit is fucking inexcusable.

No one said immediate compliance was demanded, not even Leaf. It was them by their own volition that decided to massively delist first before talking to the community.

My point stands. They handled communication poorly. Even they admitted it.
Inside The Mass Call Campaign To Stop Video Game Censorship - Aftermath
Following censorship of adult games on Steam and Itch, people are calling Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Stripe 'round the clock.

1. Not necessarily. Corcoran didn't mention that they were urged to act by the payment processors. It's them who decided to act swiftly.

2. Not what I said. What I meant was at least they could've drafted even a hurried email to warn the people quickly. Even he thought Itch was bad in communication

>(or worse, liberal!)

THIS IS WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. Itch should've handled this in a very community-centric way instead of panicking. I wish they talked to the devs first about an incoming change, who are mostly gonna understand why, and let them in on the steps to occur.

In short, they need a community manager.
July 30, 2025 at 9:59 PM
This community-hostile approach to an incoming change (failing to inform the devs *before* the delisting) and coming up with a vague list of offensive themes ("non-exhaustive list") are Itch's biggest crimes here.

Sure, they're not *the* bad guy, but they sure as hell aren't spotless.
July 30, 2025 at 9:50 PM
See, this is my issue with the entire thing. It would've been more understandable if they talked to their community *first* prior to delisting NSFW games. It wouldn't sound like, in a state of panic, they threw devs under the bus. They would've at least understood what was about to happen.
July 30, 2025 at 9:37 PM
I don't want to be in Itch's position. It's not enviable at all. But the fact that during a critical time, their priority to "urgently...protect the platform’s core payment infrastructure" instead of talking to the devs leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I just wish they spoke to the people *first*.
July 30, 2025 at 9:31 PM
It would've been more acceptable if Itch notified its community FIRST (you know, the people making and playing the games) why this is happening rather than explain after delisting titles.

Instead of a community-centric approach, Itch opted to hit the panic button before explaining.
July 30, 2025 at 9:28 PM
And it's based on a "non-exhaustive list", meaning topics not yet covered by their censorship list can include things they or their overlords may not agree with. It's rife for abuse and further censorship.
July 30, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Good scrambling: draft a hurried statement saying NFSW games will be taken down until further notice and why. Then issue the takedown.

Bad scrambling: abruptly taking down games *before* informing the devs about the ban.

Itch lives and dies by its devs, the ones supplying the content for the site.
July 30, 2025 at 8:42 PM
IDG why Itch should be spared from the wrath.

They chose to not inform devs prior to taking down "questionable" content. A notice was given *after* the takedown.

They knew that NSFW content thrives in their platform.

They knew that financial censorship is not new.

Calling them out is reasonable.
July 30, 2025 at 8:36 PM
I would've talked to the community FIRST instead of leaving them to hang. Like I said, games are the lifeline of Itch and those devs deserve the courtesy and respect of hearing from me before I strike them down.

I wouldn't have panickedly taken down the games. That's bitch move and cowardly.
July 30, 2025 at 8:31 PM
But hey, you want to hear what I would've done? Sure.

I would've notified the devs first before taking their content down, instead of the other way around.

At least I would give them the courtesy of knowing why their games will be zapped rather than letting everyone know afterwards.
July 30, 2025 at 8:29 PM
Censorship through finance is not new. And for a company with thriving NSFW games and devs, easily throwing them under the bus at the behest of loudmouths makes Itch look like they can be bullied easily. If they haven't seen it coming, then I have a bridge to sell to them. Again, piss-poor foresight
Financial Censorship
When financial institutions and payment intermediaries shut down accounts or inhibit transactions, it can have serious ramifications for free expression online. Websites, whether they accept online do...

Sounds like poor preparation on their part if they're being taken to town like a bitch by weird zealots and payment processors.
July 30, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Honestly, Itch acted like a bitch here.
July 30, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Sounds like Itch wants to be a website for payments rather than a page hosting indie games. A platform like Itch lives and dies by its content, not by its payment processors. Cross the devs and you run out of shit to monetize.

But it's nice to know Itch's priorities are in check. ✔
July 30, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Damn, are you a sorry yoga teacher? That's quite a reaching apologetics for Itch.
July 30, 2025 at 7:58 PM
You see, I don't play NSFW games. But when your company's censorship list (let's not sugarcoat it) is a "non-exhaustive list", that's scary and frankly, I don't trust it.

What's permitted right now can be censored later, depending on the next organization making you their new bitch.
July 30, 2025 at 7:57 PM
How is updating their terms to capitulate to such threats a "disagreement"? Explain.
July 30, 2025 at 7:46 PM
What's the point of having a company if they don't have control over it? If Itch is that powerless in this situation, then they have no business starting a platform in the first place.

I don't play NSFW games. But I'll be damned if I don't get angry over obvious censorship of fucking conservatives.

It's so annoying that we don't get better MPVs than this. Mitsubishi offers this ugly ass piece of shit in our country instead.
