I think it's extremely simple, voters want change and the old guard would rather lose than give it to them.
If they have to choose between 100 years of GOP dictatorship and admitting leftists were maybe sometimes right, people like Schumer and Biden will pick dictatorship every time.

Grassley is 92. When he was born, Hitler had been Chancellor of Germany for about 6 months. He was 6 years old when Poland was invaded.

The problem is that they were wrong even back then. Bush created homeland security, kickstarted the surveillance state, everything Trump has done is possible only because the seeds were sown by previous presidents, while Dems went on their merry way thinking it was all fine.

The list is incredible. It's The Wealth of Nations, a couple of self-help books, and the rest is "AI is awesome" wankery. One is written by Peter Thiel, and one by Sam Harris. The lamest list ever conceived, this would be embarrassing even on reddit.

Why would he. Democrats are chickens, they will fold every time, they just proved it. Trump could decide to shoot every Mexican in the country, and all he'd get is a month of protests before democrats agree to compromise and kill only half.

Libertarians basically make the opposite argument: we could save a lot of money if we would simply abolish the entire medical insurance industry, privatize it all and let poor people die.
it's not that they don't get it, they're just profoundly evil.

his argument basically boils down to "dialogue choices are bad when the dialogue is bad, but they're good if the dialogue is good" which is like
yeah, I guess.

uhm yeah, they were called witch hunts because witches were out hunting
men were angry that all of their foxes and deer were being taken by the witches, so they killed them

Today more than ever, if you're in power you're more likely to lose. People want change, regardless of which side it's coming from.

Somebody needs to run a study to see how many other people believe it. Trump is a good representation of his voters, we might just find out that millions of people all this time have been against asylum seekers because they thought it meant "serial killer escaped from an asylum"

maybe if 90% of all discourse on the internet didn't revolve around the US, you'd hear people's opinion about the US less often
"oh no I'm the center of the universe and ppl talk about me all the time??? woe is me"

A big difference imo is that these companies do require these massive investments to exist. You don't need a datacenter that uses as much energy as a whole state, to run the servers for Amazon . com, but you need it for chatgpt to simply exist.
