Yeah. I think Billboard apply adjusted ratios based on the general trends of the time, so you'll likely get something that caught a lucky timing break. There's a certain 'nothing could have been done' angle to it when they pull it out of thin air though. No chance to galvanise the Teddyheads.

There's a very arbitrary thing about their placement which is that they defied recurrency rules for so long that Billboard made up new rules to immediately annex them. It could have happened at any point in time. Just Billboard choosing how to write its own history.

it's funny that Mariah seems like one of the harder ones to argue with, and yet she has the biggest artificial leg up since it's the one song that gets to thrive its eternal spikes.
Everything else accrues social capital beyond chart life but is frozen where they were the week before chart exit.

I don't want to give anything to them, but I can't help but be fascinated. Imagine someone giving this the tick of approval to post it and be seen by tens of thousands of people (maybe more)
