The tone is Cronos (Dir. Guillermo del Toro) meets The Lighthouse and I like to think that this is a love letter to my culture as well as a twist on a specific horror subgenre. Not only this, it also touches themes such as depression, death, love, loneliness, and transcendence.

This is a horror/thriller/romance/drama feature screenplay that draws inspiration from films of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema as well as from Robert Eggers’ horror films (The Witch, The Lighthouse)

As always, I wanna thank The Professional Pen, especially Shannan E. Johnson. I’m always happy to show my appreciation to them because I truly believe they are so professional on what they do and I can’t thank them enough.

It’s been 10 years since I had the initial idea for this screenplay and it’s crazy how much it has evolved since then. I really hope I have the opportunity to show this in the big screen one day, and I hope I get to share more updates in the near future.

My screenplay was previously selected to participate in this same competition back in 2023. It’s truly an honor to be chosen again with this new and improved draft!!!

I don’t want to talk a lot about what this project is about (Although, we already registered our screenplay, so it’s protected by the law). Let’s just say that this is a new take on a horror sub-genre that I love and that I always wanted to work on.

This huge honor is only possible thanks to my co-writer and friend Fatima Abdulaziz Alshamsi. She’s an amazing filmmaker who is currently showing her lovely short film “WA’AD in multiple festivals! I can’t wait to continue our work in this project and the ones that will come in the future!
