"As I was walkin'  -  I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side  .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!"

auto flowers are fun to grow. never really know what you have until it's about half way through. I've gotten some very small ones with less than an ounce and giants over 1 pound. these were taken 5 days apart. it's going gangbusters :)

yaupon hollies are just about a nuisance plant around here. under every power line, fence line and long tree branches thanks to the birds. nearly all are bright red. this is only one colored orange I've found. found out recently they make good tea. something to try

inherited an old marlin model 60 .22 from my dad and have been practicing offhand position from about 40 yards with just the sight and my old eyes.it's a 4" and 2" target, can't hardly see the small.hitting the bottom one pretty often surprised me. it's been 50 years since I shot in basic training

tomatoes have really come back and eggplants are finishing up. 65 this morning but calling for 40's by the weekend. usually doesn't get freezing until late December and then sporadically. I'll be moving my delicates in shortly to wait for spring.

I planted this rosemary when it was about 10" and now it's a bush. first time it's flowered, just in a small area.

each of these two showed up as young juveniles to the property about 11 or so years ago. that we still walk together sure makes me smile. hug them old ones while you can.

found this new one just this morning, not much larger than a golf ball. could it be a young gopher tortoise? I've seen one just about a deck of cards size before but nothing smaller. I think I'll set up a trail cam and do my due diligence.

one of the residents who has been around for a while 🐢 I don't see them very often even though there are many.

we could really use some of that rain going up the coast but will not get any and they will probably get too much. life is a carnival, believe it or not... :)

found an American Persimmon tree on the property. next to the road so not the best but it has quite a bit of fruit. still very astringent. should be tasty when they ripen.

discovered this shining sumac on the walk and looked into it as per internet:"The somewhat sour berrylike fruits are edible and rich in vitamin A.[20] They are eaten by wildlife and can be made into a lemonade-like drink." they are laden right now so I'll give it a try.

chocolate cherry with heath bar bits ice cream from the ninja deluxe. other than making and freezing the recipe the machine does the rest in about 3 minutes. only made ice cream so far but frozen yogurt is on the horizon. sure is great when the munchies hit :)

one year vs 3 year pawpaw tree. I sure hope the young one catches up. I need at least two and the big one bloomed this year...fingers crossed.

almost a year since I planted this 4 way apple tree. happy to see that all 4 branches and rootstock are doing well. it sure will be something to see when they start making🍎🍏

pine devil moth caterpillar was crossing the road, still dark. if the dog hadn't seemed interested I wouldn't have seen it. moved it to the side of the road so we both could carry on with our day.

can't remember how we bent this 3' pipe wrench but it was way heavy. I used to hang from these working overhead, using all of my weight and strength jut to get them to move as a 85# teen trying my best to keep up with the men. I learned more about life/people there than I ever did in school.

clean up/out continues. weather has been great for it although still hot. one dumpster load goes out today. lot's of stuff that's worn out or broken but a few good finds.
September 22, 2025 at 10:24 AM
finally attacking the out buildings.dumpster almost full. it would be easier to just toss everything but there are many usable items. local charities will get a share as well as neighbors. it's humbling and also cathartic as I sort my parents life in things put away. I'm glad they had fun.

I'm enjoying this bokashi composter. it seems to work well. compost tea is concentrated so it lasts a while. smells slightly earthy and sweet🌱👌
