The proletariat still exists.The problem is that the lack of shared values has led to a general erosion of class consciousness - you can't convince a truck driver who doesn't see a literary writer as a worker that they're in it together, and sometimes they don't even speak the same language

Because traditional industrial workers are declining all over the world, the rise of globalization has destroyed traditional centralized industries and replaced them with decentralized global industrial chains, it has destroyed old social organizations and thrown people into the post-modernity.
