Occasionally exercises.
Nearly 120km ridden yesterday: 100km from Cambourne to Stowmarket, then train back to Cambridge, and 20km back home from there. A slow ride on a beautiful day with some beautiful countryside.

I am starting to think that a 70.3 attempt next year is not out of the question...

I got back in the pool today, more than two weeks after I got a stomach bug. I only swum a mile, and slowly.

How can I forget how to swim in such a short time?

First triathlon of 2025 - Nottingham Uni sprint. Great fun, but slow.

It was good practice for my first triathlon of the season on Easter Sunday, at Nottingham Uni - which will be much shorter, with a 15km bike and 5km run.

One thing I need to sort out is my fueling: I took one gel an hour in on the bike, and I found I bonked slightly halfway through the run.

A good training brick yesterday: a 41km Zwift ride followed immediately by a 10km run. 1hr20m for the bike, and a few seconds over 1hr for the run, so my usual slowish pace. My legs felt fine on the run after the bike, so perhaps I did not go hard enough on the bike.

So... I bought something.

Sometimes developers get it right... a frosty view over the lake in West Cambourne.

Yesterday I managed my first 10k 'run' of 2025, and the first since I was ill at the end of last year. More of a jog than a run, but ended with lots of energy and no problems.

There's a poor choice of routes available, with many local paths impassable due to mud. So it's roads all the way, baby!

My first swim of 2025: about 2,800 metres, with a 2,000 metre continuous leg. Very slow (2m30s per 100m), but a good start to building my stamina back up after my illness.

I know I can do my target distances; now I just need to improve my speed. Which will be easier said than done...

I've been away from running for three weeks due to illness.

On Tuesday I tried to do an easy three-mile run. My thighs burned. On Wednesday I did a four-miler. My thighs felt worse.

Two days later, they still ache when I walk.

Sometimes a #running lifestyle can be hard.
