I think the assumption is that Tesla's big advantage is an extensive training data set for real world scenarios with video/images synced with vehicle telemetry. More to your point, LIDAR is much more reliable but is such a different modality that it won't stack well with their current dataset.

They're betting that they will lose less money on the inaccuracies than he will have to pay the employee. Also they are hoping that they may not be liable for the inaccuracies.

Actually on a second reading this seams like a CYA filing with a side of the Chewbacca defense. 'You see Your Honor, the RECORD says one think because this poor jury foreman was confused, you can't blame US for the confusion'.

This whole thing reads like someone who wants to open some avenue for appeal, but where the appeal will be considered by someone who has absolutely no consideration for the actual facts of the case. IANAL, but that seems rather crazy to me.

Even if it doesn't address the actual problem of a New York food desert, it's still great political messaging.... I would say right on par with Trump's wall promise on 2016 but less fascist.

My father-in-law won't go anywhere without his gun. My wife and I think this projects deep insecurity on his part, but it's probably going to be a BIG point of contention when we let him know we're banning all firearms in the presence of his new grandchild.

APA is right to call for this, but I doubt the neutered CPSC will take ANY meaningful action on. A simultaneous tack might be to start documenting harm for a future lawsuit against deep pocketed companies.

I think if Israel had declared a cease-fire a year an a half ago, many people would think Israel WAS right up until that point - or at least a grey area. And people tend not to comment as much on grey areas.
