In celebration of Black History Month but to little fanfare, the palace guard announced on Friday night that MLK day would no longer be considered a federal holiday. They justified the change by characterizing MLK day as nothing but a subversive and immoral celebration of black on white violence.

The despair I feel at watching our democracy — flawed though it so obviously is — go down the shitter and the nonchalance at which even “woke leftist” reporters report its demise is almost more than I can bear.
