Cool spot on Washington Ave. in Brooklyn near the museum―Kimchi Grill― quintessential New York City mashup Korean chicken joint with delicious iterations of kimchi. Maybe secondly riffs on Mexican w/ "Ssam" burritos & tacos, all over the place, but it all makes sense, only a joint in NY could.

"Imani (Faith)", the seventh tenet of Kwanzaa, on the 7th and final day of Kwanzaa. (Something I imagine we could all use now):

"To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle."

Bob Love was one of my first basketball heroes in the mid-70s back in Chicago, before I was ten years-old. I remember roaming through the stands of old Chicago Stadium (as you could do in the empty stadiums then) watching my heroes Love and Norm Van Lier play ball. He overcame a stutter stigma.

Coppola's Megalopolis is ape shit crazy, almost unintelligible bonkers. But it's got a soul, and is well acted throughout the mayhem and craziness. A polemic vibe? Not anything resembling a realistic narrative.

It will be reviled, belittled, and hated. But I...enjoyed it, dare say, liked it?

Even if it is never released, I must see this documentary at all costs. It has become the new Holy Grail.

Loved the hell out of this book by Hanif Abdurraqib ― poetic, DEEP dive into the spirituality of ballin' culture: community hoops; high school; neighborhood cement black top. Wistful remembrances of what it's like to grow up in places one fights to "get away from" ― memories of the love.

Delicious Sunday afternoon Bloody Mary made with Aquavit and topped with dark beer at Bearded Lady in Brooklyn. (Post Alicia and Swizz Beatz' "Giants" at Brooklyn Museum.)

I spend hours some early mornings reading through, and perusing the paintings of, this project. I'm not sure why. I'm not incredibly moved by the stories. The abundance of material and cultural singularity of their creation (and preservation) is fascinating.

Vegetable potato pancakes and smoked fish at the incredible Eastern European (Uzbeki?) NetCost Market in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. (My recent obsession.)
