The close relationship between the federal regulator and Woodside’s Burrup Hub was described as a “breathtaking regulatory scandal” by Murujuga traditional custodian Raelene Cooper last week.

Late on Friday, NOPSEMA approved Woodside’s plans for offshore underwater installations, one week after it approved Woodside’s plans to start drilling and seismic blasting at the Scarborough gas field.

Maz, who is a vet, parked a four-wheel drive across Mounts Bay Road and locked himself to a concrete barrel in the boot, blocking all eastbound traffic through the Perth CBD. Police are in attendance.

“This is an early Christmas present for a large number of young campaigners who were unfairly prevented from communicating as a group, and is a resounding vindication for the right to peacefully protest about the catastrophic climate implications of Woodside’s Burrup Hub!”

Following the hearing, Disrupt Burrup Hub barrister Zarah Burgess said:

“The court saw through the imposition of these restrictive bail conditions by WA Police, which were always about protecting Woodside’s fossil fuel interests rather than the public interest.
