Remembering Dr. King honestly means refusing the dilution. It means sitting with the discomfort of how much of his critique still indicts the present.

Today, our communities are once again forced to contend with a fascist government. With #ICE terrorizing our neighborhoods. With ongoing police and state violence that targets the most vulnerable.

In his later years, Dr. #MLK took a clear position against the Vietnam War and against American imperialism. Against state violence abroad and here at home.

To honor Dr. #MLK only with platitudes about peace while ignoring his fierce opposition to empire, war, and profit is to sand down his legacy into something harmless and false.

King named the Vietnam War as a spiritual failure and called the United States “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.” He did not ask to be liked. He asked us to tell the truth, even when it costs us.

As long as we allow ICE and this administration to terrorize one group of our neighbors, we create the conditions to terrorize us all.

State-sanctioned violence is happening now.

My #CityofPhoenix #District7 office stands in solidarity with Minneapolis and with the legal observers, organizers, and community members who put their bodies on the line to protect people’s rights every day.

My heart is broken for the families torn apart and for the legal observer murdered by ICE in Minneapolis.

Item 68, if passed, would authorizes the #CityOfPhoenix to enter into short-term licenses/agreements with #Trump's gov't. Item 68 would allow federal agencies to use city-owned property to:
• Stage operations
• Use city land or facilities temporarily
• Access sites not otherwise open to federal use
