The Times appears to be ambivalent about whether to go after rapists - there might not be space in prison for them. Scratch a transphobe and a misogynist bleeds.
Evidence, hmm — the strategy is thin on this. In its section on grooming gangs, it does not once mention that in many cases this is a racist crime. I agree we must pursue rapists “relentlessly” — but is there really a capacity in prisons for all the arrests they’re going to make? As for what teenagers face, we are told that “39 per cent of 13 to 17-year-olds” in relationships in the past year have experienced “emotional or physical abuse”. What qualifies as “emotional abuse”? The source it links to is, again, vague: it states the figure is only about 13 per cent. So which is it?
