For no reason at all: how does salt melt ice?

There is a layer of water above ice, which allows salt to dissolve into ions. Ions make it harder for water molecules to bond together into ice crystals.

This is called 'freezing point depression,' and no, SAD lamps don't help.🧵⬇️

Bees??

The Middle English word ‘bede’ meant “prayer.”

People started to keep track of their prayers with a string of little balls.

We now call those little balls “beads.”

Trivia on 'trivia'

In ancient Rome, a trivium was an intersection of three roads (tri, "three" + vium, road).

According to the Romans, when people met at a trivium, they would discuss trivialis ("inconsequential things") - which eventually helped give trivia its modern meaning.

The flute is older than the wheel.

A flute fashioned from the bone of a vulture was discovered in a cave in Germany and thought to be 35,000 years old, making it tens of thousands of years older than the wheel.

We all know ‘tragedy’ comes from Greek.

‘tragos’ = goat

‘aeidein’ = to sing

So ‘tragedy’ originally meant “goat song.”

Not to be confused with the GOAT song, which is probably “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman.
