TRiP was my introduction to psychedelic trance fandom and discourse online. It was active from around 1996 to 2000 and offered taste-making music reviews, event listings, and pseudonymous discussion forums. Before it went offline I archived everything... it makes for a fascinating time capsule 👽

I found these cassette tape scans in a retro trance group on Facebook. Apparently they're from Goa Gil's collection and, judging by the track listings, probably date to the 1987 or 1988 season. It's a fascinating blend of early new beat, electro-industrial dance, and acid house.

I miss many things about the early 2000s but burning, marking up, and maintaining CDs is not really one of those. I had a policy of never bringing originals to gigs so I used to carry two huge binders with 256 CDs apiece.

The psytrance subreddit is going "no politics" to smother support for Palestine and criticism of Israel's genocide, plenty of which seems sparked by the recent drama of Skazi pulling out of Tomorrowland.

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." 💡

Skazi: "My message has always been and will continue to be: one of unity, joy and mutual respect."

Also Skazi: "We will dance on the ruins of Gaza."

Oh right, Bluesky does video now, so here's a little clip. Sorry to everyone who has autoplay on.

I'm really promiscuous in my music taste but can't seem to get into gabber at all (this despite my growing love affair with hi-tech). Still, it was quite a spectacle to hear some old-fashioned skull crushing kick drums rain down on FINAL last night. And the aesthetic... 🤌

I was more than a little astounded to hear a DJ playing Etnoscope - Odin's Kraft at last weekend's bike rave in Taipei. So good to hear this, my favorite song from an album I was honored to release so many years ago!

I source public domain imagery for mixes in this series. Given the name, I adapted a version of Four Mandalas of the Vajravali Cycle produced at the Ewam Choden Monastery, 1429-1456, from the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art.

I am also including the full track listing in two attached images.

I was challenged by @anyerquantum.bsky.social to post an album that influenced my musical tastes every day for 30 days. OK, I'll bite! 🎣

First up: Download's "Furnace", a triumph of experimental industrial dance and IDM (with a lenticular cover that doesn't look nearly as cool in static form).

For those unfamiliar with my mixcraft, I work with 100% lossless audio sources and regularly restore and edit classic material to bring out the best sound. All my newer mixes are also mastered, mostly for consistent volume levels between tracks, but also to apply a little glue during transitions.
