Sociologically, one might track the other of that to ruin genre, which I think led Spivak to see (before it was popular) that in the white settler colonies Indigenous production does that most consequentially, so I start the syllabus there in the Australian context.

Derrida says genres are “not to be mixed”, as Lindsey says can’t be opposed, unless you take “culture” to only reflect the Anglophone middle class institutionalised forms that can be “experimented” with or placed in the “metagenre of indeterminacy” that Malik diagnoses as modernism’s contemporaneity
