40gal now stocked with Sterba Cory cats, two honey gourami, an albino bristlenose, and green tetras. The tetras really brought the room together.
Also some ancient, six yo amano shrimp in there.
Plants need some work and time, but the variegated pathos on top has started growing like mad.

Cleaning the tank complete. I cleaned the stand and under the stand was enough cat fur to be the size of the cat in question.

Took down the old 10gal and sanitized the wild rocks this weekend. I left the 10gal looking like a moonscape for a few hours to verify there were no surviving shrimp in there. That soft bottom pond substrate 🤢
Moved the Anubias, buce, and subwas to the 40gal. Yay foreground plants! #aquarium

The only plants that will remain in the 10gal is the java fern and floaters.
I could never get java fern happy my entire hobby career, until I stopped caring about it entirely, now it's thriving. I think it must have indirect light. New tank will have total floating plant coverage 👍

I will be quarrying some beautiful rainbow flint for hardscape. I plan to try a "dry start method" with weeping moss slurry and probably a second moss type for the back wall. That will be it for plants other than floaters and java fern. It will be a cherry shrimp kingdom.

Words fail me how excited I am to redo the 10gal tank. It's been sitting as basically a grow-out tank for... Four years? The aquasoil is basically one large mat of BBA. It's IN THE LIVING ROOM yet looks like shit (I mean, the plants are happy tho)

This place was not one of them. This place was run by revisionist Lost Cause shit heads. That land was continuing to be exploited as far as I'm concerned, and I'm so glad it burned.
