I couldn't get down there, but I called every news station I could to make sure they had eyes on the place. No one could get to the 4th floor without being let in, and the reporter I was in contact with said it was quiet there. Ominously quiet.

When feeling absolute dread and helplessness about the world, one must recalibrate with the most mundane, stupid, or nonsensical tasks. Hopefully it's a fleeting distraction?

Actively working to ignore the news in order to have a semi-sane kind of day is futile. Colleagues inevitably ask if you've seen the latest news, at which point anxiety skyrockets and one must know what nonsense has erupted now.
