Yes you’re right about that. The claim that wages have been stagnant for a generation is false.

But it’s very true that the last few years prices for many “essentials“ of life are way up and wages haven’t kept pace.

Also compare wage growth to growth in housing, healthcare, education costs and it’s a different story. CPI doesn’t capture the whole story.
