Tonight was more of the bookbinding project (edge painting one of the text blocks I trimmed and rounded last night), then another session of the FrizzLit Moby Dick book club, the former of which turned into the backdrop for the photo tonight.

Oak and something sharp I can't place on the nose; chocolate, toffee, warm spices, and… pineapple? peach? on the palate; with more oak and a bit of ginger heat on the finish. Bit sweet for me, but tasty regardless.

I don't think the distillery's version has quite the same punch, though.

A whiff of brine and dried fruit on the nose; the palate is sherry-sweet with orange peel and apricots, with maybe a bit of cocoa and faint spice; the finish is a bit thin and reveals some oak.

Figured I'd use that as a theme, with the closest analogues I had in the house for the original six murder weapons in the board game framing the glassware and whiskey.

My day took an unexpected turn, but my evening plan stood: watching "Clue" to mark the 40th anniversary of its release.

Vanilla, oak, citrus, and apple on the nose; orange marmalade, cinnamon, and more vanilla on the palate; all of that lingers into the finish, which turns peppery.

Another night, another bookbinding project, sewing endpapers on the text blocks I did the other day and sewing up the signatures for another larger text block tonight, thus the photo.

Tried something different with the photo (extreme close-up of the liquid in a rocks glass). Kinda-sorta "bands on a gas giant" effect.

Smoke, dried fruit, and honey on the nose; cocoa, peat, and candied orange peel on the palate; some spice and vanilla in the finish. Better than I remembered, but I'm still not sold on the bang-for-buck.

I get some hazelnut, apricot, and spice on the nose; tropical fruit on the palate (I always taste banana) with vanilla and nutmeg; and oak, more vanilla, and honey on the finish. Better than their base bottle, but not enough to justify the price, IMO.

Because Internet, it looks like someone has dug into what fonts Google will do this with:

(It's also a little browser-dependent; some work in Chrome but not in Safari because of different font policies.)
Fonts that appear in Google searches
This is a list of fonts that cause a Google search results page to display in the font searched. It's comprehensive as far as I'm aware, but I've certainly been wrong before.

The chapter talks about different varieties of whale, which Melville groups by size in, of all things, terms referring to the size of books. Especially appropriate as tonight's project was bookbinding.

Another night spent almost entirely on other projects, so another quick setup. Having the dram and getting a start on the reading for the FrizzLit book club for next week with the infamous "Cetology" chapter of "Moby Dick".

Apples, pears, and caramel on the nose; honey, ginger, and shortbread on the palate; more pear and the oak on the finish. Bourbon-y but with wine and oak.
