Remember when COVID hit & some experts warned that 100k could die, and most people, including other experts said that was alarmist…then a million died and we shrugged?

When I tell you the US mil will be shooting Americans in the street it sounds alarmist; in 3 yrs we’ll shrug and say “of course.”

His racism was balanced by his misogyny.

Critics say it may have racist undertones.

The military will get paid. He’s talking about us “deep-state” civil servants.

See my pinned post.
It’s almost like we did this for a living.

I’ll say it again: the Bond villains were very clear about what they intended to do (with the exception of the Musk/Doge shit show). If you voted for them, you voted for this. You own it. All of it.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

related, when the president is invading our own country, waging war on our own people, i don't wanna see dems give the GOP shit they ask for, don't wanna hear shit bout 'we hope our friends across the aisle will work with us on bipartisan solutions to the problems they cause' i don't want none of it

Look. Invading our own country is about as straightforward a case as you can have for impeachment. The GOP abandoning the Constitution is kind of the only story there is and it gets no coverage.

Guys. I just had a crazy idea. What if the President DIDN’T deploy troops in American cities. Just a thought. Have we tried that before?

My son had just finished saying “well we know they don’t kill him.” Surprise!

Computer has seen you posts about how shitty chemo is. Computer declines.

Sounds like you need something cold to offset it; have you tried ice cream?

Not true.

It's paid for by both the American and the non-American taxpayer.

That undocumented person has a job, pays rent, buys stuff, eats food, etc.👍🏿

They pay into the same tax pool as everyone else. And they pay a *higher* effective tax rate.

Undocumented folk in CA pay $8.5B in taxes a year.

Just started it yesterday and have to say: Ran is now my all-time favorite Scalzi character (especially the way Tavia Gilbert voices it)!

I spent the last couple weeks re-binging them. I know John has said it’s not necessary, but I’d feel like I was missing something otherwise. Plus, I like rereading books I enjoyed.

Senator Murphy also lays out a clear set of codified demands that Dems can stand for. Among them:

*no more using budget to punish enemies
*no more using FCC to censor critics
*restrictions on ICE lawlessness in interior
*clear ban on troops in cities

Right?
Was talking to a (Hispanic…it’s relevant) former coworker last weekend and he was telling me about the company he started to do OS geotracking. He’s trying to get a contract with DHS. Our jobs sometimes required mental compartmentation, but that’s some next level partitioning.

Very Trump-era story.
1. The sword has no meaning for Charles, but matters for the Eisenhower Museum.
2. Illegal for the museum to give away US property!
3. Trump makes no distinction between personal/public property.
4. The person who did the right thing was fired.

I cannot emphasize enough that this administration shouldn’t get 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦 from the Dems until they start obeying the law.

Not. One.

Optics matter: if you want people to turn out next election despite troops in the streets, then show them it matters.

Do your goddamn jobs and hold the line.

Well, I hope you have a plan because “that’s not legal” hasn’t been very effective at curtailing these moves so far. Just ask a USAID employee.

We Should Have Finished Reconstruction: A Brief History Of American Politics, 1865-2025

yeah, this is hegseth straightforwardly announcing that it is free play time for bigots in the ranks. and together with his comments on standards, he clearly wants to purge as many women, black and brown people as he can from the armed services. a white man's military.

Hegseth: "We are overhauling an inspector general process that has been weaponized, putting complainers and poor performers in the driver seat. We are doing the same with the equal opportunity policies. No more frivolous complaints, no more anonymous complains ... no more walking on eggshells."
